The All Star break is over and we are now finished with week 17 of the regular season. There was a lot of exciting things that happened this week including Derek Jeter hitting a homerun in his first at bat since his injury. Below is three surprising players who had good weeks.
Colby Rasmus, Outfielder, Toronto Blue Jays
The ex St Louis Cardinal is having himself a good season and an even better week. His .458 batting average was the second best of any player behind only Hunter Pence. Colby managed to hit one home run and drove in three men in seven games. His numbers are not super eye popping but the batting average puts him above and beyond. The only negative of the week was that he struck out eight times but when you have an average that high it really doesn’t matter. Rasmus is owned in about 90 percent of leagues and you could see this number go up after the week he had.
Nate Schierholtz, Outfielder, Chicago Cubs
This man is only owned in about 25 percent of leagues but is putting together a good season. His batting average for the year is .281 and he has 14 home runs to go with 43 RBIs. His weekly numbers were even better as he checked in at a .456 batting average with three home runs and eight RBIs. His three walks put his OBP at .520 which was the highest OBP of the week. Look to snag this guy in your league if you are looking for some outfield help.
Yonder Alonso, First Basemen, San Diego Padres
It’s not everyday that you see a first basemen with base stealing threats but Alonso is doing just that. He has stolen three bags in his past seven games and had a batting average of .417 as well. The Padres have been struggling this season but Alonso has been having a really good year. His season batting average is at .288 over 233 at bats. He is only owned in about five percent of leagues which is strange considering how well he has been playing. Look to pick this guy up if you are looking for some stolen bases and a first basemen.
