Week 18 of the regular season has been a circus of accusations against Alex Rodriguez. Sources announced that A-Rod will be receiving his suspension on Monday which could possibly be a lifetime suspension. On the field there has been some big winning streaks including the Los Angeles Dodgers winning 14 straight home games and the Atlanta Braves winning nine in a row. This article, like every other week will headline the three surprising performances of fantasy baseball.
Robbie Grossman, Center Fielder, Houston Astros
The 23 year-old is living the dream as he was just recently called up and began to heat up. In his past 20 at-bats he has recorded 10 hits, putting his batting average at .500 for the week with three walks and two stolen bases. His three walks put his OBP at .565 which is the fourth highest in the major leagues over this time. As the Astros are the worst team in baseball you could see this guy getting a lot more playing time. He is only owned by about 50 people overall in fantasy baseball so the chances of him being available in your league are very high. If you are really struggling for outfield help you could pick this guy up. Don’t bank on this kid to be the savior of your team though.
Michael Saunders, Outfielder, Seattle Mariners
The power has been there this week for the Mariners outfielder. He has hit four home runs in his past six games and has batted a lot higher than he normally does at a mark of .292. This guy is owned in about 20 percent of leagues and for good reason. His overall batting average is just .234 so you would have to assume this guy will come back to earth very soon. This is why this article is about guys who are surprising but not great fantasy options.
Ramon Santiago, Second Basemen, Detroit Tigers
The man who took over when Omar Infante got hurt has done a very good job in his place. In his past 15 at-bats he has recorded seven hits one of which was a double. To go with his great weekly batting average he has also shown great plate awareness with three walks and only one strikeout. This man is not owned in any single league and probably won’t gain too many followers unless he can keep this up over a long period of time. I would not go out and get him just yet but second baseman's are hard to come by.
