Biggest Surprises of Week 13

The biggest surprises of week 13 of the major league season. Week 13 also marked the halfway point of the season. One of the three surprise performances came from the home run length holder of the Cincinnati Reds stadium, who was just recently traded from the Atlanta Braves. Without further introduction I give you the biggest surprises of the week.

Juan Francisco,  First Basemen, Milwaukee Brewers

The roadrunner has put his stamp on the NL Central this past week. Over a five game period Francisco has managed to hit three home runs, while compiling a .375 batting average. To go along with the three long balls Juan drove in four runs while walking once and striking out three times. The Brewers were in dire need of a first basemen and Francisco has fit in nicely for the struggling Brew Crew. Look for him to go on these hot streaks occasionally throughout the year along with some big times struggles as well. I would stay away from Francisco unless you are in complete need of a first basemen.

Erick Aybar,  Shortstop, Los Angeles Angels

Here is a fantasy option at shortstop who doesn’t really get the respect he deserves on a team full of stars. He is owned in about 75 percent of leagues and that number should be much higher. He is batting .285 on the season with three home runs and 31 RBIs. His week numbers have been even better with one home run and eight RBIs. He has recorded 10 hits in his past 24 at-bats putting his batting average at .417. Aybar doesn’t necessarily blow you away with power numbers or driving in runs but he hits for average which doesn’t hurt your fantasy team at all.

Ryan Flaherty,  Second Basemen, Baltimore Orioles

Talk about going on a hot streak! The second basemen who is only owned in about one percent of league batted .571. This is only eight hits in 14 at-bats but it doesn’t take away from your team if you happened to have him in your lineup. His three home runs helped him rack up eight RBIs and one walk. This guy is fairly unknown but could become a decent option at second if his bat stays hot. For now you should just watch his progress and snag him up if the bat stays hot.
