Biggest Fantasy Baseball Surprises of Week 21

Most fantasy baseball leagues have only one week remaining once week 21 ends. This means every single win is crucial or you are already comfortably ready for the playoffs to start. If you are not one of those people who can sit back and wait for the playoffs to start than you are probably hoping for a big performance out of someone who is unexpected. Below is the three biggest surprises of week 21 .

Jason Castro,  Catcher, Houston Astros

Castro has made this list twice in his career now and for good reason. He only played in five games this week due to the fact that he is a catcher but during those at-bats he took advantage. Nine hits in 17 at-bats put his batting average at .529 and he added in three home runs with five RBIs and three walks. The fantasy baseball world has taken notice of his play and is now owned in about 50 percent of leagues. Catchers are one of the thinnest positions in fantasy baseball so picking this guy up could help you out immensely.

Khris Davis,  Left Fielder, Milwaukee Brewers

Don’t worry guys, I didn’t spell his name wrong. This is not the Davis that you are thinking of. Ever since Ryan Braun decided to take a 65 game vacation Davis decided that he would do his best Braun impression out in left. In his past 21 at-bats he has recorded 10 hits including two doubles and three home runs. He also had six RBIs to his name along with a .560 OBP. Outfielders are the main skill position in baseball and that means a lot of them will be joining fantasy teams. Davis is no exception as he is now owned in about 65 percent of leagues and you could guarantee that number will go up by Monday night.

Darin Ruf,  Left Fielder, Philadelphia Phillies

The Phillies have had a disappointing season but wasn’t really a surprise to most people. Charlie Manuel who just recently recorded his 1,000th win was fired and you can assume that this Phillies team is going to be looking a whole lot different come 2014. Ruf is hearing none of it and is still trying to keep this team rolling. Four home runs over the past seven games is tied for the most in baseball and his six RBIs didn’t hurt either. He did strike out a ridiculous 12 times in  31 at-bats but still managed to bat .290. He is owned in about 55 percent of leagues but I wouldn’t go pick him up if I were you.
