Blue Jays OF Jose Bautista Placed on 15-day Disabled List

The Toronto Blue Jays will be without six-time All Star Jose Bautista for an extended period of time, as they placed him on the 15-day disabled list following an injury to his toe. On Thursday, Bautista slammed his toe against the base of the wall and was pulled from the game.

The extent of Bautista's toe injury is unknown, though FanDuel's Will Carroll said based on the information currently available, it could be a turf toe. If that is indeed the case, Carroll tweeted the injury could linger, which could mean Bautista is out beyond the 15 days.

Bautista's numbers have been in a decline over the last few years, with his batting average dropping from .286 in 2014 to .250 in 2015 and currently sits at a .230 batting average this year. Bautista has continued to show his power with 12 home runs and 15 doubles and his move into the leadoff spot has worked given his .360 on-base percentage.

His absence comes at a time when Toronto has issues in its rotation, but has won seven of its last 10 games. At least for the next few days, Toronto will be without Bautista and Troy Tulowitzki for the next few days. Tulowitzki will begin a rehab assignment soon, but it seems as if it will be several weeks before Bautista returns.
