I will not lie Tim Hudson is one of my favorite pitchers of all time. He has been having a rough year to say the least but he is Hudi and I believe he will come out of it. His stats are as follows. His ERA is at a 4.41 yet still has four wins but six losses. He is getting to the end of his career and he announced before the start of the season that this indeed will be his final go around.
Hudson is one of the genuinely nice guys in the game of baseball today. He has won countless numbers of awards off the field and obviously a few on the field. In his last start against the Padres, he gave up three runs in as many innings but then began to lock in and ended up going 7 and ? innings. The Braves didn’t win the game but to see how he reacted after such a rough start to the game is a great sign.
I honestly believe that he will come out of this funk and that is not just because I am a Braves fan. Well, maybe it is because I am a Braves fan a little bit but still. He has never shown signs of wear and tear and he has had bumps in the road before. He will not let his last season in professional baseball end badly. He will go on a tear after the All Star break and I for one am very excited to see it.
For those who watch Hudi pitch know that he is a ground ball out guy. He used to get the big strikeout numbers in Oakland, where he had 181 in 2001. He understands what it takes to win ball games and doesn’t try to get flashy with the ks. His splits on the season are very interesting and that is what I will get into now.
He has pitched amazingly at The Ted this season. (That’s what us Braves fans call Turner Field, because of Ted Turner and all) Anyways. His ERA is 2.39 with a 3-0 record and an opponent batting average of .180. The away numbers are where he has been struggling mightily. To the date he has an ERA of 6.07 on the road along with all six of his season losses and only one win.
Overall this comes down to how well he will finish the season as he is indeed retiring at years end. Give him sometime and watch him start to heat up after the All Star break. Some might call me crazy for making these predictions and all I have to say to them is, “Don’t believe me just watch.”
