In his first start as a member of the Toronto Blue Jays, ace starter David Price handled the Minnesota Twins, yielding just one run and three hits while striking out 11 in eight innings.
For Price, it was a nice change of scenery after spending the past year or so in a Detroit Tigers uniform:
"I've pitched in quite a few big games," Price said after the 5-1 Blue Jays win. "But that atmosphere today - that takes the cake. I've never experienced anything like that. That was cool."
Going from a Tigers team that was stuck in mediocrity to the Blue Jays, who have energized themselves for the stretch run after adding Price and Troy Tulowitzki, had to feel good for the imending free agent.
Prior to heading to Toronto, Price posted a 9-4 record with a 2.53 ERA and 1.11 WHIP in 21 starts with Detroit. That made him among the most productive starting pitchers in baseball. And while he's going to a more hitter-friendly ballpark up north, Price will soon understand just how much having the best offense in the game will take some pressure off him on the bump.
In his Toronto debut, Price struck out Brian Dozier, Miguel Sano and Aaron Hicks twice each. He also yielded a solo homer to Torii Hunter, the 14th homer he has given up this year. Though, Price finished strong, retiring the last 15 batters he faced in a 119-pitch effort.
