Arizona Diamondbacks starter Shelby Miller was lifted from the team's game against the Los Angeles Dodgers in the fifth inning on Sunday night. This led to an anxious few hours as the starting pitcher was slated to undergo an MRI on his throwing elbow. Unfortunately for the Diamondbacks, it's now being reported that Miller has a torn UCL.
It's an injury that usually forces a player to undergo Tommy John Surgery, leading him to miss a year-plus while he rehabs. Miller could decide for the rehab route, but that's been a rare instance for pitchers recently.
iller, acquired from the Atlanta Braves prior to last season, had a disastrous first year in Arizona. He posted a 3-12 record with a 6.16 ERA and 1.67 WHIP. The 26-year-old starter entered Sunday's action pitching considerably better in 2017 with a 2-1 record and a 3.50/1.29 split in three starts.
We will have further updates on this situation as new information breaks.
