Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Ryan Braun is currently on the trade block with what appears to be a May deadline to deal him. But the veteran is not resting Wednesday because the Brewers want to maintain a healthy trade chip. Instead, he's simply getting the day off.
It comes against the Chicago Cubs and starter right-handed pitcher Kyle Kendricks. Braun is hitting a solid .306 with five homers on the young season.
With Braun out of action, Nick Franklin will start in left field and bat fifth for the Brew Crew. Franklin is hitting just .167 on the season, but he did post a .286 average with a .337 BABip against right-handed pitching a season ago. He might be an under-the-radar candidate to break out on Wednesday.
