As you may or may not have seen, my 2014 FantasyVA Metric has the values for this year's fantasy baseball season. If you do not have the the time look into the database, here is a recap of some of the worst values for this season.
Wellington Castillo, Catcher, Chicago Cubs
Castillo was projected to hit .244 with 12 home runs and 40 runs batted in for a value of -39.08. Last year's value was a putrid -21.74. Castillo is incredibly replacable, and at a value comparable to the worst players in fantasy baseball, get him off your team.
James Loney, First Base, Tampa Bay Rays
Loney is projected to hit .282 with 12 home runs and 70 runs batted in. While that sounds like a good line, it is not for a first baseman in fantasy baseball. Loney's projected value is a horrid -45.81 this season. So far this season, Loney is hitting .213 with one home run and one stolen base.
Jose Altuve, Second Base, Houston Astros
This name was not expected to come up, was it? Altuve has the lowest value in players projected with over 500 at-bats. Why? Altuve's production is very replaceable. He is projected to hit .280 with 30 stolen bases. Not bad right? Considering those are the only two categories he can contribute it, yes it is bad. Last year, Altuve's value was -13.31, this year's projection? -14.64.
Chris Johnson, Third Base, Atlanta Braves
Chris Johnson had a great year last year, hitting .321. But his value was -11.62 because that was the only category he could contribute in. This year, he is projected to have a value of -33.13, and that is if he hits .280. Johnson is currently hitting .259 for Atlanta.
Starlin Castro, Shortstop, Chicago Cubs
Castro could be one of the better young shortstops in the game. Could be. But not in fantasy baseball. He is projected as the lowest value with over 450 at-bats (starter playing time) with a value of -43.23. How could he be that bad? Last year's value was -42.66.
B.J. Upton, Outfield, Atlanta Braves
Could have predicted this one, no? This year, Upton's predicted value is an embarrassing -43.49. How can one player be that bad? Well, he did it last season too with a wretched -67.30. Do not have B.J. Upton on your fantasy team. He excels in stolen bases. That is it, and he is not worth it with a sub .200 batting average and less than average at every other category.
