The value of Billy Butler has really taken a hit this year as he has not produced the numbers we have grown accustomed to seeing out of him. Butler has never been a huge power guy with 2012 being his best year in the power department by far with 29 homeruns which is eight more than his next highest total of 21. However he was a guy you could to bat for a high average as a .296 career hitter and drive in some runs along the way.
At this point in the year Butler is only batting .267 with two homeruns and 31 RBI. There is hop though that he is regaining his all star form and will once again become a fantasy asset. Over the last 30 days Butler is batting a robust .330 with one homerun, 17 runs scored and 16 RBI. Butler has been as consistent as they come over the years and at only 28 years old is right in the middle of his prime. Don’t expect Butler to become a monster power out of nowhere but he will certainly become at least as valuable as he has been throughout his career of not a little bit better as is in the peak of his career.
Batting in the middle of an above average offense will have it’s perks, if Butler is able to keep up the hitting and not regress to his numbers during the first month of the season. As the season wears on Butler should become a reliable asset in the RBI and batting average categories. If he is available in your league be sure to pick him up or make a trade for him before his numbers get even better and you can’t buy low on Butler.
