Fantasy Baseball Daily 4.10.14

Unfortunately for today we only have nine games being played which is leaving some positions thing such as second base adn short stop.  There is good value to be found at other postiions though, such as pitcher and catcher, which will allow us to spend a little more on those weaker postions.  My fantasy picks are from FanDuel.com. If you have yet to sign up on FanDuel now is the time, as you will receive a 1000 percent deposit bonus on your initial deposit when you join through this link.

On FanDuel you are allotted a $ 35,000 cap for selecting players. Your lineup will consist of one starting pitcher and one position player at each position, except for outfield where you select three outfielders.

Hitters: Single = 1pt, Double = 2pts, Triple = 3pts, Homerun = 4pts, RBI = 1pt, Run = 1pt, Walk = 1pt,
Stolen Base = 2pts, Hit By Pitch = 1, Out (calculated as at bats - hits) = -.25pt
Pitchers: Win = 4pts, Earned Run = -1pt, Strike Out = 1pt, Innings Pitched = 1pt

Value Picks

Pitcher

David Hale, Braves, $4,400: The Mets are not an intimidating offense, which should lead to Hale having success on the mound tonight.  Hale pitched well his first time after winning a rotation spot out of spring training, throwing five innings, giving up no runs and striking out four.  Hale should be able to go a little deeper tonight and collect his first win if the year.

Catcher

Tyler Flowers, White Sox, $2,400: Flowers is absolutely on fire this season.  Flowers is batting .478 right now with one homerun.  Only twice has he gone hitless this year and at only $2,400 you could do a lot worse with the way he’s hitting the ball.

First Base

Chris Colabello, Twins, $2,800: Right now there is no reason not to start Colabello.  He already has 11 RBI in only seven games.  The Twins face Daniel Straily tonight who right now is the one Athletics pitcher who you can actually generate some offense on.  I would be shocked if Colabello goes hitless in back to back games, and he should get an RBI or two with the surprisingly strong Twins offense.

Second Base

Aaron Hill, Diamondbacks, $3,400: while $3,400 seems like a borderline value pick when you take a look at the second basemen who have a game today $3,400 look like a steal.  Unless you want to pony up $4,000 or more for Jason Kipnis or Chase Utley than Hill is the way to go for today’s games against a Ryan Vogelsong who has struggled since the beginning of last year.

Third Base

Yangervis Solarte, Yankees, $3,000: Solarte has been tearing the cover off the ball since getting his first start last series against the Blue Jays.  Solarte has a hit in every game, and six of his twelve hits have been doubles to go along with seven RBI.  As long as he keeps hitting the ball you should look to keep him in your daily lineups.

Short Stop

Jed Lowrie, Athletics, $3,500: Much like second base shortstop is a very thin position today due to the lack of games being played.  The cheaper options today are very risky and I wouldn’t feel comfortable starting them.  Lowrie looks like a solid play for today as Mike Pelfrey is the opposing pitcher today.  Only twice has Pelfrey thrown a full season and managed an ERA under 5.03 but one of those seasons was a 4.74 ERA which really is no better than an ERA over 5.00.  Lowrie and all of the A’s batters should have a good day at the plate today.

Outfield

Ben Revere, Phillies, $3,000: Revere has been hitting the ball just like he was at the second half of the season last year.  Revere is currently riding a five game hitting streak in which he has scored five runs and has stolen three bases.  If Revere is able to reach base again tonight you should expect him to add to his steals total providing great value for his cost.

My Lineup

Pitcher: David Hale, Braves, $4,400

Catcher: Tyler Flowers, White Sox, $2,400

First Base: Freddie Freeman, Braves, $4,200

Second Base: Dustin Pedroia, Red Sox, $3,700: Dustin Pedroia always seems to hit the Yankees well which is the main reason for starting him at second.  Pedroia also has good numbers at Yankee Stadium where he hit .318 last season, and may be able to get a cheap homerun as he’s a guy who knows how to hit the ball the other way.  By saving so much cap space at pitcher and catcher I was able to get a second baseman I feel comfortable starting.

Third Base: Trevor Plouffe, Twins, $3,500

Short Stop: Jed Lowrie, Athletics, $3,500

Outfield: Jose Bautista, Blue Jays, $4,800

Outfield: Jacoby Ellsbury, Yankees, $4,300

Outfield: Carlos Gomez, Brewers, $3,900: This may seem like an odd choice since Cliff Lee is on the mound.  Normally I would not recommend starting anybody versus Lee however Gomez has had good success vs Lee in his career.  Gomez has amassed a .323 batting average with one double, one triple and two homeruns off of Lee.  If Gomez gets on look for Braun to be able to drive him in as he actually has .435 batting average vs Lee and has been crushing the ball this series.

Don't forget to check your lineup before each game to make sure that everyone in your lineup is starting. The last thing you want is a zero spot in your lineup costing yourself money.
