Fantasy Baseball Daily 4.11.14

Today in fantasy baseball daily, we have a great number of games to analyze.  There are a total of 15 games on the schedule.  All of the games are evening/night games and starting at 7:05 PM Eastern Time we begin the night with the three games slated to start.

We bring you fantasy daily picks for FanDuel.com and if you haven’t signed up yet, be sure to follow this link http://eDraft.com/FanDuel/MLB to receive a 100% deposit bonus on your initial deposit.  This is an amazing deal that you can’t miss so be sure to check it out and make yourself some extra cash.  The cap for FanDuel is $35,000 with only one player at each position like a real MLB lineup (with the exception of outfielders where you can start any three players that are outfield eligible.)

The scoring system for FanDuel is as follows:

Hitters: Single = 1pt, Double = 2pts, Triple = 3pts, Homerun = 4pts, RBI = 1pt, Run = 1pt, Walk = 1pt,
Stolen Base = 2pts, Hit By Pitch = 1, Out (calculated as at bats - hits) = -.25pt
Pitchers: Win = 4pts, Earned Run = -1pt, Strike Out = 1pt, Innings Pitched = 1pt

Good Value Players

Pitcher

Joe Kelly, Cardinals, $5,600: Kelly picked up the win in Saturday's 6-1 win over Pittsburgh, allowing just one run on four walks and six hits while striking out four in 5.1 innings.  Kelly managed to strand several runners while needing 107 pitches to get through his outing.  The Cardinals will take performances like these but his advanced numbers continue to suggest some regression is on the way.  Fortunately he’s pitching against the Cubs today so there is a good chance the regression will start later.

Catcher

Russell Martin, Pirates, $3,000: Martin smacked two homeruns in his 2-for-4 effort against the Cubs on Wednesday.  He got the day off in yesterday’s game and will be back in the lineup today so he should be pretty fresh.  He faces Wily Peralta of the Milwaukee Brewers who had a rough first outing.  Martin should get some production for our fantasy plays today.

First Base

Adam LaRoche, Nationals, $3,600: In today’s game, LaRoche will see Braves pitcher Julio Teheran for the second time this season.  In their first meeting, LaRoche won the battle going 2-for-2 with a homerun, two RBI’s, one run, and two walks.  The fact that he is also worth relatively low numbers is another reason why he shouldn’t be missed in your daily fantasy plays.

Second Base

Brian Dozier, Twins, $3,400: Dozier went 1-for-3 with his third homer of the year and a walk in Thursday's loss to Oakland.  His long ball was the only run the Twins managed to generate against A's starter Daniel Straily.  He has just six hits in 36 at-bats this year (batting .167), but has hit all three of his homers in his last five games and owns a solid 4:5 walk to strikeout ratio in that span, so he's starting to get things going.

Third Base

Marcus Semien, White Sox, $3,000: The value of Semien is one that cannot be beaten.  In Tuesday’s game against the Rockies, he went 4-for-5 with two runs, two RBI’s, one walk and a stolen base.  Semien sees a favorable matchup today where he faces Carlos Carrasco who was lit up in his first start.  He allowed five runs (four earned) on seven hits and two walks, while striking out seven over 5.2 innings, in Saturday's 7-3 loss to the Twins.

Shortstop

Everth Cabrera, Padres, $3,200: In Tuesday’s game against the Indians, Cabrera went 3-for-5 hitting three doubles.  Unfortunately there was no one in scoring position for him to drive in.  He is an up and down player so far this year and that will probably be that way all year.  He has great speed and can steal a lot of bases.  He swiped his first one in Wednesday’s double header and he will likely move around the bags today against the Tigers, especially since he sees a right handed pitcher.  If he reaches first base he will most likely be on second a couple pitches later.

Outfield

Melky Cabrera, Blue Jays, $3,500: Cabrera homered for the fourth straight game Tuesday against the Astros.  He has now hit more home runs in eight games this season than he did in 88 games last season, when he was sidelined with leg injuries and also had a benign tumor removed from his spine late in the season.  Few prognosticators were declaring Cabrera a bounce-back candidate this season, but it seems he may have been one of the steals of drafts, even though we know he'll cool down at some point.

My Lineup: $35,000 Cap

Pitcher – Joe Kelly, Cardinals, $5,600

Catcher Buster Posey, Giants, $4,000: Coming out of the Diamondbacks series, Posey had one RBI in each of those games.  The top valued catcher is matching up against Rockies pitcher Jorge De La Rosa who has an 8.31 ERA after two starts and has yet to get out of the fifth inning.

First Base – Adam LaRoche, Nationals, $3,600

Second Base Ian Kinsler, Tigers, $3,700: Kinsler went 2-for-5 with two stolen bases against the Dodgers on Wednesday.  Kinsler stole both second and third base in the game while scoring two runs.  Brian Dozier could be the better play here but I had some extra cash in the cap so I decided to spend it here.  Hopefully my risk pays off.

Third Base Pedro Alvarez, Pirates, $3,800: Alvarez belted a go-ahead three-run homer Thursday, giving him three homers and seven RBI in his last two games.  He's tied for the NL lead in home runs with five.  Perhaps what is more impressive is his 6:6 walk to strikeout ratio in the early going, especially after a 48:186 ratio in 2013.  If Alvarez can maintain his plate discipline which is something he's never been able to do before, then even better things lie ahead for the reigning National League home run champion.

Shortstop – Everth Cabrera, Padres, $3,200

Outfield – Melky Cabrera, Blue Jays, $3,500

Outfield Jayson Werth, Nationals, $3,800: Werth went 2-for-3 with a homer, a walk, a steal, two RBI and two runs in Thursday's win over the Marlins.  Last year, Werth started slow, but came on toward the middle of the season; this year, he's started out hot, with a .375 average and now homers in consecutive games. Start and enjoy.

Outfield Angel Pagan, Giants, $3,600: Pagan continued his torrid start to the season going 3-for-5 with a steal against the Diamondbacks Wednesday.  He has at least one hit in every game so far this season and is now hitting .462 on the year. While that will not continue, the two steals so far this year are a good sign that Pagan is healthy.  He should be a productive player this year hitting at the top of the Giants batting order.
