Fantasy Baseball Daily April 10, 2014

The work week is just about over and we are ready for the weekend.  Today we have a full day of games that include a full slate of evening/night games  with the earliest being the Houston Astros versus the Baltimore Orioles starting at 7:05 PM Eastern Standard Time.  With this game we have 15 total games today with 30 teams worth of players to analyze so let’s get into it and win some money!

We bring you fantasy daily picks for FanDuel.com and if you haven’t signed up yet, be sure to follow this link http://eDraft.com/FanDuel/MLB to receive a 100% deposit bonus on your initial deposit.  This is an amazing deal that you can’t miss so be sure to check it out and make yourself some extra cash.  The cap for FanDuel is $35,000 with only one player at each position like a real MLB lineup (with the exception of outfielders where you can start any three players that are outfield eligible.)

The scoring system for FanDuel is as follows:

Hitters: Single = 1pt, Double = 2pts, Triple = 3pts, Homerun = 4pts, RBI = 1pt, Run = 1pt, Walk = 1pt,
Stolen Base = 2pts, Hit By Pitch = 1, Out (calculated as at bats - hits) = -.25pt
Pitchers: Win = 4pts, Earned Run = -1pt, Strike Out = 1pt, Innings Pitched = 1pt

Good Value Players

Pitcher

Jason Vargas, Royals, $5,200: There is a plethora of solid ace pitchers today.  If you can save up on other positions then definitely purchase one for their services.  But if you are looking to upgrade other positions and get a good value pitcher for a low price, consider Vargas.  He was blown up in his last start by the Tigers giving up 11 hits and seven earned runs through five innings.  He's now given up a total of 21 hits and 12 earned runs over 11.1 innings in his last two outings, but still owns a 3.50 ERA and 1.25 WHIP thanks to a strong start.  Although Vargas looks to be coming back down to earth, he'll have a much friendlier matchup today against the Mariners at Safeco field.

Catcher

Wilson Ramos, Nationals, $3,100: Ramos hit fifth in his return to the lineup Wednesday, going 1-for-2 with a walk, a double and an RBI.  The Nats catcher looked fine in his first game off the DL, and should quickly resume a full workload.  Ramos and the Nationals will be facing the Athletics, Tom Milone who has not had a good start to his season.  His ERA sits at a 5.86 and has given up 11 hits and 10 earned runs in his last two starts.  Get Ramos back in your lineup pronto.

First Base

Brandon Belt, Giants, $3,300: Finding good value for a good first baseman will be difficult to accomplish due to the fact that many of them are struggling right now.  Chances are, you are going to be spending a good amount of your payroll to this department.  If you are willing to take a risk, Belt is the option you are looking for.  He has been up and down the past week but the past two games he is 4-for-6 with a double, a homerun, three RBI’s and a stolen base.  He is getting points for more than just hitting and that is important for fantasy daily plays.  He is facing the Dodgers Paul Maholm.

Second Base

Ian Kinsler, Tigers, $3,500: Kinsler went 3-for-5 and scored two runs in Tuesday's victory over the Astros.  His batting average sat at .277 as recently as Apr. 29, but five multi-hit efforts over his last six games, including Tuesday's, have helped raise that mark to .308.  Kinsler is not currently locked into one spot in the lineup, but he has been a fixture at the top of the Tigers' lineup, batting leadoff against right-handed starting pitchers and second against lefties.

Third Base

Matt Carpenter, Cardinals, $3,500: Carpenter went 3-for-4 with a double, two runs scored, an RBI and a walk in Wednesday's victory over the Braves.  Carpenter now has eight hits in his last 15 at-bats while working on a modest four-game hit streak.  The Cardinals' leadoff man was bound to get hot sooner or later, and he now has a .288 average on the season, although he hasn't homered since April 4.  His first homerun has a possibility of coming tonight where he will face Francisco Liriano of the Pirates who owns an ERA of 4.54.

Shortstop

Alcides Escobar, Royals, $3,000: Escobar is actually a very good value for today’s play.  As of Thursday he is on a four game hitting streak with five stolen bases in that time frame.  He is finally doing what we wanted all year and that is moving around the bases.  He has 10 so far and there will definitely be more on the way.  He is facing the Seattle Mariners Brandon Maurer who is starting due to injuries to other pitchers in the rotation.  In 13 innings pitched, Maurer gave up 15 hits and 10 earned runs this season which sets his ERA at 6.92.  I like Escobar’s chances of continuing his hitting ways and possibly stealing some more bases.

Outfield

Jayson Werth, Nationals, $3,600: Werth continued to see the ball well Tuesday, going 4-for-5 with four singles against the Dodgers.  Although Werth's four base knocks only produced a single RBI, owners will be pleased that three of them came off Dodgers ace Clayton Kershaw.  After he saw his nine-game hit streak come to an end Saturday, Werth has got right back on the horse with five hits in 12 at-bats in three games since.
