My Value Picks
Picher
Dillon Gee, Mets, $6,600: Gee has been roughed up in his two most recent starts but was very good for the Mets in his first start coming off the DL and has been solid for the Mets throughout his career when healthy. In his start today he welcomes the weak hitting Phillies to Citi Field where even the best hitting teams can struggle to score runs due to the large dimensions of the field.
Catcher
Devin Mesoraco, Reds, $3,200: Mesoraco has had a rough July but is beginning to see his bat come around again. He hit just his third homerun of the month but has five hits in his last three games now, and squares off against Trevor Cahill is hoping to just keep his ERA from going above 6 on the season.
First Base
Eric Hosmer, Royals, $3,300: Before the injury Hosmer looked like the player form the second half of last season. Over the last 30 days Hosmer is batting .371 with two homeruns, nine runs scored and ten RBI. With a date against the Twins pitching staff Hosmer should continue his hitting ways if he find himself back in the lineup.
Second Base
Aaron Hill, Diamondbacks, $3,100: All Hill has done for the month of July is hit the ball. Over the last 30 days Hill is batting .273 with two homeruns, 12 runs scored and nine RBI, but has been better the last two weeks batting .406 with of his seven of his 12 runs scored during this span. Mike Leake is a solid pitcher but has struggled of late having surrendered four runs in each of his last three games.
Third Base
Manny Machado, Orioles, $3,200: There aren’t many batters hotter than Machado has been during the month of July. During that time he is batting .368 with four homeruns, eight runs scored and 10 RBI. He has a tough matchup tonight against Jered Weaver who has returned to his ace form after an injury riddled 2013 season.
Short Stop
Jed Lowrie, Athletics, $2,700: Lowrie finally is rebounding after an awful first half of the season. During July Lowrie is batting .326 with just home runs but has 11 runs scored and 12 RBI. Now he faces Scott Feldman who began the season red hot but has struggled of late with 11 walks in his last three games, which has helped lead to his 4.60 ERA.
Outfield
Charlie Blackmon, Rockies, $3,200: Many people expected Blackmon to cool off after the blazing start that he got off to. However he remains one of the better hitting outfielders in the game to this point with a batting average over .300 and a possible 20/20 on the horizon.
