Today is a bit of a tough one on us when picking our lineups with the shortened slate of games. The pitching options are fairly weak if you are looking for a value pitcher and a majority of the high end pitchers have a difficult matchup making it difficult to place such a large amount of your cap into that pitcher. Also if you do select an expensive pitcher you are really going to handicap yourself with your batting lineup as with only nine games there are not a ton of batters to choose from either. However I have still managed to make a lineup that I think should win us some money on this shortened day.
We bring you fantasy daily picks for FanDuel .com and if you haven’t signed up yet, be sure to follow this link http://eDraft.com/FanDuel/MLB to receive a 100% deposit bonus on your initial deposit. This is an amazing deal that you can’t miss so be sure to check it out and make yourself some extra cash. The cap for FanDuel is $35,000 with only one player at each position like a real MLB lineup (with the exception of outfielders where you can start any three players that are outfield eligible).
The scoring system for FanDuel is as follows:
Batters: Single = 1pt, Double = 2pts, Triple = 3pts, Homerun = 4pts, RBI = 1pt, Run = 1pt, Walk = 1pt,
Stolen Base = 2pts, Hit By Pitch = 1, Out (calculated as at bats - hits) = -.25pt
Pitchers: Win = 4pts, Earned Run = -1pt, Strike Out = 1pt, Innings Pitched = 1pt
My Value Plays
Pitcher
Phil Hughes, Twins, $7,100: If you are looking for a good value pitcher today the pickings are slim with the shortened schedule today. The crop of pitchers in the “value pool” is very weak but one pitcher that could provide some decent value is Hughes. For the most part Hughes has pitched very well this year in large part to much improved command with a strikeout to walk ratio of 88:10 this season, and a large ballpark. The first time Hughes faced the Yankees he pitched a very strong game going eight innings allowing only two runs with six strikeouts. This time he faces them while they are in the middle of a huge slump where runs are few and far between and pitches in Minnesota where he has been dominant all year.
Catcher
Miguel Montero, Diamondbacks, $3,200: Before last night 0-2 performance Montero had been in the middle of a very productive six game hitting streak. During that hitting streak Montero had a homerun, three runs scored and seven RBI. While Vance Worley has been dominant this year with his improved command this is the first strong offense that he has faced all season which could lead to some struggles and some runs driven in for Montero.
First Base
C.J. Cron, Angels, $3,100: Cron is absolutely mashing opposing pitchers right now and with a lefty on the mound in Brett Oberholtzer Cron should find himself back in the lineup. Over the last 10 games Cron has five homeruns eight RBI and six runs scored. Oberholtzer has been much better since getting called back up to the majors but his ERA still sits at 4.40 and may find himself struggling against this lineup which has some very good right handed batter.
Second Base
Logan Forsythe, Rays, $2,800: There may not be a hotter hitter in baseball over the last week than Forsythe. During his last five games Forsythe is 11-21 with two homeruns, five runs scored and six RBI.
Third Base
David Freese, Angels, $2,400: Freese is finally starting to see his bat come to life for the Angels. He is batting over .400 over his last seven games and has gone hitless in back to back games in nearly three weeks. With a lefty on the mound Freese will find himself in the lineup once again as he looks to keep his recent success going.
Shorts Stop
Jimmy Rollins, Phillies, $2,800: The season numbers aren’t good for Rollins but he has always hit the Marlins well and has been fairly active on the base paths of late with four steals over the last eight games. Nathan Eovaldi is finally seeing his numbers creep up as his luck from the early part of the season seems to be running out. The Phillies offense as a while has really struggled of late but if they are going to score some runs look for Rollins to be a part of that production one way or another.
Outfield
Matt Kemp, Dodgers, $3,200: While he still isn’t producing the MVP like numbers from before his rash of injuries Kemp was still very good during the month of June. During June Kemp batted .307 with 13 runs scored, three homeruns and 16 RBI. These are very useful numbers and with a game against Colorado that is starting the struggling Franklin Morales Kemp should have no problems adding to his impressive totals from last month.
