Pitchers: Win = 4pts, Earned Run = -1pt, Strike Out = 1pt, Innings Pitched = 1pt
My Value Picks
Pitcher
Shelby Miller, Cardinals, $5,500: Even though Miller is pitching against the Padres its still a bit of a risky play when you consider how wild he has been this. Miller owns a 1.40 WHIP this season in large part to having walked 55 batters this season in only 115.2 innings which is only two fewer than he walked all of last season in 173.2 innings. If Miller can reign in the walks he should have success though against one of the weakest offense in all of baseball.
Catcher
Salvador Perez, Royals, $2,600: Perez has not done much at the plate recently to warrant being selected in your lineup. This is more of a matchup play here as Kevin Correia is on the mound for the Twins who has had an absolutely terrible season in 2014. He is sitting at an ERA above 5 this year and has a 1.51 WHIP. When a pitcher like Correia is on the mound I tend to like to stack my lineup with the opposing teams batters, as Correia is bad enough to wake up even the coldest of bats.
First Base
Eric Hosmer, Royals, $3,200: Hosmer much like Perez has not done much hitting at the plate recently but with a matchup like he has on a day where not every team is playing the pickings are slim if you are looking for a value first baseman. This could be the game that turns around Hosmer’s recent cold streak and if it is you won’t want to miss out on it as it has the makings of a huge game.
Second Base
Neil Walker, Pirates, $3,500: While $3,500 may be just out of the range of what is considered a “value” pick he is hard to pass on when you look at how he has been swing the bat the past two weeks. In walkers last 15 games he is batting .357 with two homeruns, 10 runs scored, and six RBI. With a game scheduled in Arizona which is a good hitters park against Josh Collmenter and the rest of the Diamondbacks pitching, Walker should keep his hot bat going.
Third Base
Kyle Seager, Mariners, $3,300: Quietly Seager is putting together a fine season at third base. He is one of the best run producers at the position and has done it while batting for a respectable average of .280. Among third baseman Seager currently ranks third in RBI, fourth in homeruns, and is eigth in batting average. Seager looks to keep his success going at the plate when he tries to square up Zach McAllister and his 5.65 ERA.
Short Stop
Everth Cabrera, Padres, $2,200: Cabrera hasn’t been anything special since coming off the disabled list but it’s only been two games and he does have a hit in both of those including a run scored last night. All Cabrera has to do is get on base and he could easily be the best value pick of the day with a stolen base. At only $2,200 he is well worth the risk of starting if he can score and swipe a bag.
Outfield
Josh Harrison, Pirates, $3,300: Harrison was looking really shaky at the plate before the all star break and looked more like a player who pitchers had finally adjusted to. Harrison however ahs adjusted back and might be the hottest in baseball right now outside of Brett Gardner. In his last four games Harrison has four homeruns, six runs scored, six RBI and two steals. Much like with the Royals if you are looking for a team whose batters you would like to stack up on the Pirates could be that team with a game against the Diamondbacks.
