Good Value Players

Pitcher

Jeff Locke, Pirates, $5,400: Locke gave up two runs on eight hits and one walk in eight innings Tuesday against the Diamondbacks.  He only struck out three, but he was able to scatter the eight hits and pitched well enough to win on most nights. Locke has been able to knock his ERA down from 5.11 on June 8 to 3.46 after Tuesday's start, and is rounding back into the mid-rotation form he showcased last season. The big negative from a fantasy perspective is his 26 strikeouts over 41.2 innings so far this season, but the fact that he has only walked five has allowed him to be pretty effective. He pitches todat against the Phillies.

Catcher

Salvador Perez, Royals, $3,400: Perez played a big role in the Royals' win against the Dodgers Monday night, going 2-for-4 with his ninth home run of the season.  The Kansas City backstop has been red hot through the month of June, hitting safely in 19 of 21 games this month. Perez has his average up to .287 to go with his nine home runs.

First Base

Mike Napoli, Red Sox, $3,600: Napoli was credited with a steal of home in Sunday's win over the Athletics. He made a break for the plate and eluded the tag, after the A's got Jonathan Herrera in a rundown between first and second base.  Napoli later homered in the game to become the first Red Sox player in 47 years -- since Rico Petrocelli in September 1967 -- to homer and get credit for a steal of home in the same game.

Second Base

Dustin Pedroia, Red Sox, $3,300: Pedroia went 2-for-4 with just his fourth homer of the season in Thursday's loss to the A's.  Pedroia hit just nine homers last season but was playing with a torn UCL in his thumb for almost all of the season, so it was considered likely that some of his power would return this year. However, the opposite has been true. He does have 23 doubles, but his batting average has taken a tumble and he entered play Thursday slugging just .372 after slugging .415 last year.

Third Base

Ryan Zimmerman, Nationals, $3,100: Zimmerman went 3-for-7 with a two-run home run in Tuesday's 4-2 16 inning win over the Brewers.  Zimmerman played the hero Tuesday, as his home run (his third of the year) in the 16th inning off Mike Fiers won the game for Washington. Zimmerman, who has been playing most of his games in left field since being activated on June 3, had been 2-for-19 in his previous five games. So maybe Tuesday's outing can get him going. He now has a .250/.305/.405 slash line in 116 at-bats this year.

Shortstop

Erick Aybar, Angels, $3,400: Aybar went 1-for-4 with a home run in a loss to the Royals on Sunday.  He extended his hitting streak to five games Sunday, and is on pace for a career-high 12 home runs this season.  Today he and the Angels face Hector Noesi who is sporting a 5.07 ERA.  His last three starts consisted of 17.2 innings while giving up 23 base hits, eight earned runs, and only striking out 10 batters.

Outfield

Lorenzo Cain, Royals, $3,000: Cain went 2-for-5 with a home run, stolen base, two runs scored, and one RBI in Wednesday's loss to the Dodgers.  That's the first time this season that Cain has both homered and stolen a base in the same game. He led off the game with his third homer of the season, and then stole his seventh base in the fifth. Cain doesn't stand out in any one category, but his .310/.349/.421 line makes him a usable in deep leagues.
