My Value Plays
Pitcher
Jesse Hahn, Padres, $5,000: Hahn only has two start in his major league career but rebounded well in his second career start after a rough debut. Last time out Hahn gave up no runs over six innings against the Mets with seven strikeouts through six innings. The Mariners are rally struggling offensively right now making this a prime to time to start a pitcher against them especially one that is barely even going to make a dent in your salary cap.
Catcher
Yasmani Grandal, Padres, $2,800: The overall numbers are not pretty to look at but Grandal has been making more consistent contact lately and has his batting average back above the Mendoza line. He is four for his last ten with a homerun and gets to face Erasmo Ramirez who has an ERA above five and hasn’t made it past the six innings since April first.
First Base
Billy Butler, Royals, $3,200: There are not many players hotter than Butler right now. He is batting .320 with 17 runs scored and 15 RBI over the last 30 days. He has a tough matchup against Anibal Sanchez who has been great for the Tigers this year. However for the recently hot hitting Royals Butler has 10 RBI and seven runs scored so whatever offense the Royals do muster up Butler is likely to be a part of it some way.
Second Base
Brandon Phillips, Reds, $3,000: Phillips is locked in at the plate right now with eight hits over his last five games, with seven RBI, three runs scored and a homerun. The Reds offense has been clicking of late thanks in large part to Phillips and he should continue to produce at a great rate at least in the short term while the team is hot.
Third Base
Aramis Ramirez, Brewers, $3,300: Ramirez is riding a seven game hitting streak and is starting to flash his power with two homeruns during this short hitting streak. Chase Anderson has pitched fairly well for the Diamondbacks but he hasn’t been going deep into games and an early entrance for the bullpen should lead to big things for Ramirez.
Short Stop
Alexei Ramirez, White Sox, $3,100: Ramirez has been the second best short stop this year behind only Troy Tulowitzki. A generally slow starter Ramirez is batting .310 with 37 runs scored, 36 RBI, seven home runs and 12 steals. It is very difficult to find that type of overall production form any position let alone from a shortstop. At only $3,100 you would be crazy not to have Ramirez in your lineups.
Outfield
Brett Gardner, Yankees, $3,300: Gardner has been a hitting machine lately, especially at Yankee stadium. Gardner has hits in ten of his last twelve including a five game hitting streak that includes two homeruns and a 4-5 game last night. The table setter for the Yankees has been on a tear lately and with the offense rounding out back into form he should have no issues crossing home plate tomorrow.
