My Good Value Plays
Pitcher
Wade Miley, Diamondbacks, $5,800: Miley who has been a dissapointment thus far in 2014, looks to see his luck turn as he goes up against the lowest scoring offense in baseball. The padres do very little to challenge hitters as they don’t have any batter capable of either batting for a strong batting average or providing threatening power. For only $5,80 expect Miley to provide excellent value in daily leagues.
Catcher
Jason Castro, Astros, $3,000: The average has not been there all season long but that should matter very little with Jeremy Guthrie on the mound for the Royals. Castro is riding a three game hitting streak and has the capability of hitting the long ball on any given night. Guthrie has been lackluster all season long, leaving Castor with plenty of opportunities to drive in runs today.
First Base
Adam LaRoche, Nationals, $2,900: Now that he is off the disabled list LaRoche is going to become a solid daily player once again. He just hit a homerun last night in only his second game back to give him six on the year to go along with a batting average above .300. Even though Henderson Alvarez has been good for the Marlins his luck is bound to change eventually as a pitcher incapable of striking out batters or missing many bats and owns a 1.36 WHIP. Expect LaRoche to take advantage of a mediocre pitcher outperforming himself.
Second Base
Kolten Wong, Cardinals, $3,000: Wong is on a tear at the plate since coming back to the majors and with a right hander on the mound Wong will once again find himself in the lineup. He has an eight game hitting streak with four multi hit games that has resulted in a batting average raise of .040 points. As long as he hitting the ball Wong will remain a consistent value daily play.
Third Base
Manny Machado, Orioles, $2,900: Machado may still only be batting .235 but he has a nine game hitting streak in which he has scored at least one run seven times. The main problem has been that multiple hits have been hard to come by, but his luck may be changing with Matt Garza on the mound who owns a 4.92 ERA. Garza has not been the ace that the Brewers expected him to be and has only given up two or fewer runs only twice since April 2.
Short Stop
Ian Desmond, Nationals, $2,800: Desmond has been stroking the ball over the last two weeks. During that span he has four homeruns and has only gone hitless three times. With Alavarez on the mound for the Marlinsthere is little doubt in my mind that Desmond will once again collect some hits in this game making him a valubale asset in daily's.
Outfield
Torii Hunter, Tigers, $3,000: Despite his continued production at the plate he continues to be undervalued in daily’s. At only $3,000 it’s extremely difficult not to start him day in and day out. The savvy veteran has struggled a little bit of late but everytime you think he's finished he comes through with a big game and tah's what I expect to see out of him tonight.
