Good Value Players
Pitcher
Dillon Gee, Mets, $6,500: Gee tossed a gem Sunday against the Marlins, providing eight shutout innings in the 4-0 victory. He gave up three hits and walked four while posting six strikeouts. Performances such as Sunday suddenly don't seem as unexpected as before for Gee, who has quietly emerged as one of the best starters in the game since the second half of last season. The eight scoreless innings make it three quality starts in his last four outings, lowering his ERA to 2.88 in the process.
Catcher
Jarrod Saltalamacchia, Marlins, $3,200: Saltalamacchia went 2-for-3 with a home run, two runs scored and one RBI against the Dodgers on Friday. I had him on my roster the other day and I am happy that I did. He has been on fire lately and I am going to keep riding the streak of posting positive points on FanDuel. It was Saltalamacchia's sixth home run of the season on Saturday, as he continues to swing the bat in a fine fashion. Since April 23rd, Salty has raised his batting average from .250 to .310, with 11 hits in his last 29 at-bats.
First Base
Mark Teixeira, Rays, $3,400: As a persona; Yankees fan, I have been starting to get fed up with Teixeira’s poor play and constant struggle to stay healthy. As of late though, I cannot be upset because he has been producing better than I thought he would be. He has been showing no signs of weakness in his wrist by hitting four homeruns in the past five games with six RBI’s. He has a favorable matchup today facing the Rays Erik Bedard who owns a 5.52 ERA in 14.2 innings pitched. He has yet to make it past five innings pitched this season so I expect Teixeira to jump on him early.
Second Base
Dee Gordon, Dodgers, $3,500: Gordon went 3-for-5, with a run scored, one RBI and a stolen base. The Dodgers second baseman continues to impress with the bat, now raising his batting average to .330 on the year. Not only is his bat scorching hot, Gordon also stole his MLB-leading 16th base on the year pushing back any thought of an Alex Guerrero promotion. With a player that is very versatile, you want him in your roster to get you points for stolen bases and scoring runs. The fact that he has a high batting average only heightens the fact that you need him on your team.
Third Base
Adrian Beltre, Rangers, $3,400: Believe it or not, this selection is actually a great value pick due to how good this player is. Beltre is a top third basemen in the game and he is valued at a very low price. He is well rested after coming off of a DL stint on April 25th getting five hits and two doubles since then. Beltre is still searching for his first homer of the season and it is very possible to happen today when he is in a favorable matchup against the Angels left-handed pitcher Tyler Skaggs who owns a 3.34 ERA.
Shortstop
Jonathan Villar, Astros, $3,000: Villar went 2-for-3 with a triple, a two-run homer, a walk and two runs in the Astros' 9-8 loss to the Mariners on Saturday. He has hit safely in eight of his last nine games with four doubles, two triples, a home run, six RBI, two steals and four multi-hit performances during that span. If that isn’t a reason to get him in on your daily fantasy plays, I don’t know what is. I know I will have him on my team. Will you?
Outfield
Alfonso Soriano, Yankees, $3,300: Soriano was 3-for-7 with two runs scored and a solo home run in a losing effort against the Rays on Friday night. He now has five home runs but just 11 RBI on the season and that has often been a problem for the Yankees who have generally not hit well with men on base. In this one, a 14 inning affair, they left a whopping 29 men on, including 19 runners being stranded by the hitters in the two through six slots in the order.
