Good Value Players
Pitcher
Rick Porcello, Tigers, $6,800: Porcello tossed seven solid innings, surrendering just two runs on four hits with six strikeouts and no walks versus the Royals Friday night. Do not look now, but Porcello might just be standing on the cusp of a long awaited breakout campaign. Currently holding a 4-1 record with a 3.66 ERA and 1.00 WHIP, the 25-year-old hurler is becoming more of a factor in standard fantasy leagues and out daily leagues. Facing the Astros should mean many innings pitched, a decent amount of strikeouts, and hopefully the win.
Catcher
Jarrod Saltalamacchia, Marlins, $3,300: For three straight games, Saltalamacchia has gone 1-for-4. This past Friday, he hit his sixth home run of the season, as he continues to swing the bat in a fine fashion. Since April 23rd, Salty has raised his batting average from .250 to .310, with 11 hits in his last 29 at-bats. Some better news for us is the fact that he is facing the Mets pitcher Zack Wheeler who was obliterated in his last start only going four innings while giving up 6 earned runs. His ERA sits at a 5.13 and Saltalamacchia should continue his hitting ways.
First Base
Brandon Belt, Giants, $3,100: Finding good value for a good first baseman will be difficult to accomplish due to the fact that many of them are struggling right now. Chances are, you are going to be spending a good amount of your payroll to this department. If you are willing to take a risk, Belt is the option you are looking for. He has been up and down the past week but the past two games he has at least one hit with a walk and a stolen base. He is getting points for more than just hitting and that is important for fantasy daily plays. He is facing the Pirates right-hander Gerrit Cole.
Second Base
Howie Kendrick, Angels, $3,500: Kendrick went 1-for-3 with a triple, an RBI, a run scored, and a walk. He has really settled in to a groove over the last few weeks, as he is hitting .385 (25-for-65) in his last 16 games. The second baseman has also tallied seven stolen bases in 2014, putting him on pace to swipe 39 bags, which would almost triple his previous career high of 14. Kendrick will be seeing the Yankees left-handed pitcher, Vidal Nuno who has been far from good this season and owns a 6.87 ERA. Expect Kendrick and the rest of the Angels to be in good shape to make some things happen offensively.
Third Base
Casey McGehee, Marlins, $3,200: McGehee went 2-for-5 Monday including a walk-off RBI single to beat the Mets. While he does not offer the prototypical power of a cleanup hitter (zero home runs in 123 at-bats) he has notched six multi-hit efforts in his past nine games. The veteran has also driven home 21 RBI while posting a .309 batting average while bouncing between the fourth and fifth spot in the lineup. He'll continue to provide solid run production over the balance of the season while protecting a red-hot Giancarlo Stanton.
Shortstop
Erick Aybar, Angels, $3,300: Aybar went 3-for-5 with a home run and a double in a 14-3 loss to the Rangers on Sunday. Aybar started the game off for the Halos on a promising note, as he led off the first with a home run, but aside from an Albert Pujols solo shot later in the inning, the Angels didn't have much go their way in the contest. Aybar's big day in the one-hole is good news for owners, as it could mean more time at the top of the lineup for the 30-year-old while Kole Calhoun (ankle) is on the disabled list. He is also facing Vidal Nuno of the Yankees so this could be a safe bet here.
Outfield
Rajai Davis, Tigers, $3,700: Davis has tallied hits in eight of his last nine appearances across 12 games, during which he recorded a .385 average (15-for-39), one homer, five RBI, seven runs scored, five stolen bases, and a 1:11 BB:K. He went 1-for-3 with an RBI in yesterday’s game against the Astros, and went 3-for-6 with a double, three runs scored, and two stolen bases against the Royals the day before. Davis faces the Astros Brad Peacock who has yet get a win and has a 5.26 ERA.
