Good Value Players
Pitcher
James Paxton, Mariners, $7,200: Paxton gave up three runs on four hits while striking out eight and walking one Wednesday in a loss to the Angels. It was a tough loss for Paxton, who was dealing through six innings before running into trouble in the seventh. The left-hander was pulled from the game with two out and two runners on base. Reliever Danny Farquhar subsequently coughed up a three run homer, two of which belonged to Paxton. Not that it mattered since the Mariners were held scoreless by Angels starter C.J. Wilson. The 25-year-old will toe the rubber in Toronto today.
Catcher
Buster Posey, Giants, $3,500: Posey was 2-for-5 with a home run and two RBI in San Francisco's win over the Nationals on Friday night. He seems to have eliminated any concerns over his hip injury, collecting six hits over his past two games. Posey has 15 home runs and 61 RBI with a rising .286 average as he continues his productive second half so the Giants will hope he can stay healthy down the stretch.
First Base
Steve Pearce, Orioles, $3,600: Pearce went 2-for-4 with one RBI Monday against the Red Sox.Pearce has been a pleasant surprise for the Orioles this season as he is hitting .286 with 16 home runs and 38 RBI. Throw in his .357 on-base percentage and he has is having by far the best season of his career.
Second Base
Dee Gordon, Dodgers, $3,100: Gordon went 3-for-5 with one run scored and one RBI against the Mets on Friday night. The success of Gordon (.289/.334/.383) this season at the top of the order is one of the main reasons the Dodgers are contending for a division title. With 70 runs and 57 stolen bases, Gordon remains one of the league best lead-off hitters. He just needs to learn how to work the count a bit more and snag some walks from time-to-time.
Third Base
Juan Uribe, Dodgers, $2,900: Uribe was 3-for-4 with a double in Monday's win over the Rockies and is now batting .309/.335/.442. A quietly underrated season for the veteran third baseman. Injuries have limited Uribe to just 94 games, but when healthy, he's been very productive. It would be strongly suggested to consider him for a fantasy play for the rest of the season.
Shortstop
Erick Aybar, Angels, $2,800: Aybar went 3-for-4 in a loss to the Marlins on Monday, extending his hitting streak to 10 games. Aybar has been on an impressive run of late, as he has now recorded five consecutive multi-hit games, stealing two bases over that span. He has just two doubles and no home runs during the course of the entire streak, but could be worth a look at a shallow position while he is red hot.
Outfield
Austin Jackson, Mariners, $2,400: Jackson went 2-for-5 with two stolen bases in the Mariners' loss to the A's on Sunday. Since joining the Mariners at the trade deadline, Jackson has hit poorly, with a .244/.278/.386 line in 168 at-bats.The Mariners were able to run wild against A's starter Jon Lester and catcher Derek Norris, stealing four bases in four attempts, but weren't able to translate that into any runs scored. One positive note about Jackson - since the trade, he has nine stolen bases already, after having nine with the Tigers in 100 games.
