The first-place Cleveland Indians made some major news early Sunday morning, acquiring All-Star reliever Andrew Miller from the New York Yankees for four prospects.
Miller, 31, has been absolutely dominating recently. He's posted a 1.39 ERA and 0.77 WHIP while striking out over 15 batters per inning thus far in 2015. This comes on the heels of Miller saving 36 games for the Yankees last season.
Despite "losing" his closer job to Aroldis Chapman this year, Miller is expected to take over in that role with the Indians.
With Miller now in Cleveland, the team's rotation has been strengthened. He'll join current closer Cody Allen and set-up man Dan Otero to form a dominating late-inning trio in the pen. Allen has posted a 2.58 ERA and 1.08 WHIP in 44 appearances on the year. Meanwhile, Otero boasts a 1.31/1.04 split on the season.
By shortening the game to six innings, the likes of Josh Tomlin, Danny Salazar, Corey Kluber and Carlos Carrasco should net more wins.
As it relates to the Yankees' haul, Clint Frazier is now the team's top prospect. The outfielder, ranked as the 44th-best prospect in the game by Baseball America prior to the season, was just called up to Triple-A prior to the trade. He might get some play when rosters expand in September.
In terms of any fantasy relevance from a Yankees' perspective, top-end relief prospects Ben Heller and J.P. Feyereisen could join the big-league team here soon. Heller has posted a 1.73 ERA and 0.84 WHIP to go with over 10 strikeouts per nine innings in between Double-A and Triple-A. Meanwhile, Feyereisen is boasting a 2.23/1.24 split with 12.5 K's per nine in Double-A.
These are the three names to keep an eye on moving forward this season. Though, the addition of top starting pitching prospect Justus Sheffield is something to check out in the coming years.
