Fantasy Baseball: Time to Drop Mike Moustakas

Fantasy Baseball: Time to Drop Mike Moustakas

Every year, there are a handful of players who are just not worth having on your fantasy teams. Why do they stay on rosters? Their name and reputation. Fantasy baseball is all about numbers, and if a player is not performing, there is no room for him on your fantasy roster.

That being said, sometimes you see a player try to hit, and he just looks lost. He cannot hit for average, power, get on base, or even score runs once he gets on base. Unfortunately, it is time to drop Mike Moustakas. So far this season, "Moose" is hitting .147 with four home runs and 14 runs batted in in over 100 at-bats. He has 14 runs batted in, but five of them came in a two-day stretch.

There have been rumors saying that Moustakas could be headed to the minor leagues as seen here. The Kansas City Star says that Moustakas could be sent down, but not to lose hope because the same thing happened to Royals star Alex Gordon.

The best thing for Moustakas would be the minor leagues, but as far as fantasy baseball is concerned, there is no value left for him until he gets hot, which seems light years away. Sometimes players have a low average because they are hitting the ball hard, just right at people. This is not the case for Moustakas, as his BABIP (batting average on balls in play) is an abysmal .141. That could mean he is lining out though, right? According to fangraphs, Moustakas has only hit 12 line drives this season. That means he has squared up just 12 balls, in over 100 at-bats. Be sure to drop him now, as he has no fantasy value at the moment.
