Fantasy Baseball: Top-Five Week Eight Additions

Believe it or not, there are still quite a few decent guys speckled throughout the free agency wire. While some of you are sweating it out, hoping to make a killer trade or get a rebound performance from your original draft picks, other are cutting the fat and picking up some new blood. Rather than let your own emotions and superstitions bring you down, be sure to give these guys a look and make room on your roster before it’s too late.

Mitch Moreland Texas Rangers 1B

The Texas Rangers needed a few players to step up offensively after the loss of Josh Hamilton and no one has done a better job of that than Mitch Moreland. Last week Moreland cranked four bombs off of the Oakland Athletics and Detroit Tigers pitching staffs along with two doubles and 10 RBI. Moreland has a rough beginning to the season, but has been lights out since the tail end of April. His .294 average is a great fit for anyone in their first base or utility spot. He’s currently owned in roughly 56 percent of all leagues.

Sean Doolittle Oakland Athletics RP

The Oakland Athletics are back to their winnings ways, which means Sean Doolittle is getting more appearances. Despite coming out of the bullpen, Doolittle is 3-0 on the season with 19 strikeouts and seven holds on the season. As far as consistency goes, Doolittle’s 0.95 ERA and 0.58 WHIP speak for themselves. Doolittle is owned in roughly 11 percent of all leagues. Crazy!

Didi Gregorius Arizona Diamondbacks SS

Prior to this season, Didi Gregorius had only played in eight total games with the Cincinnati Reds, and still hit .300 in that frame. With that in mind it shouldn’t come to much of a surprise that Gregorius is hitting .354 in 2013 with three home runs and 14 runs scored. The Dutch national is the real deal and would make a fine addition to any fantasy team. He’s currently owned in roughly 21 percent of all leagues.

Yonder Alonso San Diego Padres 1B

The San Diego Padres have been in desperate need of an offense outside of Chase Headley, and Yonder Alonso has been certainly pulling his weight. Alonso is hitting .289 on the season and is currently leading the team in hits (44) and RBI (26). His six home runs are on pace to crush the nine he hit in all of 2012. He is currently owned in roughly 20 percent of all leagues.

David DeJesus Chicago Cubs OF

Believe it or not, there are other players on the Chicago Cubs have other players on their team besides Anthony Rizzo and Starlin Castro. David DeJesus is currently holding the team’s best average (.294) and most runs scored (24). His five home runs and 40 total hits on the season aren’t too shabby either. DeJesus is a relatively quiet hitter, but a very impactful one for anyone’s team. He is currently owned in roughly 10 percent of all leagues.
