By now, things are starting to either look amazing or like an absolute train wreck in your fantasy league. But don’t fret, there is still plenty of time to make some adjustments to your lineup to help get you back in the race. Week three of the Major League Baseball season saw a lot of shakeups within the divisions. With that, it might be time to pick a few of these guys up.
J.P. Arencibia Toronto Blue Jays C
It’s no real shock that Toronto Blue Jays' catcher J.P. Arencibia has found himself in a multiple-person tie for the second-most home runs hit on the season (seven). However, as fantasy owners of years passed remember, Arencibia is not exactly the most consistent of hitters. Things have changed: Arencibia is currently toting a decent .250 batting average and currently leads all catchers in the Majors with 44 total bases. Whether you need someone behind the dish or at a utility spot, all signs are looking strong. He is currently owned in only 65-percent of leagues.
Jerry Blevins Oakland Athletics RP
Even though all of the good closers are all ready off the board, it would be wise of you to pick up a few arms who can last one to two innings to help boost your strikeouts and lower your team WHIP and ERA. Jerry Blevins proved last season that he is a quality multiple-innings southpaw for the Oakland Athletics and in 2013 he has yet to slow down. In 10 2/3 innings pitched thus far, he has 14 punch outs along with a 0.84 ERA and 0.66 WHIP. He is currently owned in only two-percent of all leagues. Pick him up and use him wisely.
Daniel Nava Boston Red Sox OF
Boston Red Sox outfielder Daniel Nava has been one of the hottest hitters over the last week, but what do you expect from a guy whose first major league hit was a one-pitch grand slam? He is currently batting .320 on the season with four home runs and 14 RBI and is currently owned in roughly 25-percent of all leagues. If anything, he would make a solid platoon guy.
A.J. Pollock Arizona Diamondbacks OF
Another hot hitter in week three, A.J. Pollock of the Arizona Diamondbacks has been quietly impressive. He is currently batting .309 with two home runs, eight runs, eight RBI and two stolen bases in 55 at-bats. In a lineup that has other, more notable hitters, Pollock has been seeing a lot of pitches and getting on base when it counts. He is currently owned in roughly five-percent of all leagues.
Alcides Escobar Kansas City Royals SS
Trying to find a consistent hitting shortstop who can additionally hit for power? Alcides Escobar is your man. Despite the fact that he’s batting an above-average .279, he is currently 11th in total bases (29), sixth in RBI (nine), tied for eighth in home runs (two) and is tied for sixth in stolen bases (three) amongst all shortstops. With those kinds of numbers it would behoove you to pick him up even for the sake of a rainy day. He is currently owned in roughly 81-percent of all leagues.
