The third week of the Major League Baseball season came with a lot of unexpected changes in the rankings, but also showed a lot of players for who they really are. A lot of lumps were handed down, all of which should not be taken out on your fantasy baseball roster. Here are a few guys you should get rid of immediately in order to right your slowly sinking ship.
Dan Haren Washington Nationals SP
Dan Haren is frustrated. The Washington Nationals are frustrated. And certainly every fantasy owner who has thrown him in to start has been cursing up a storm. On paper Haren going to the Nats seemed like a great idea and a win for all parties involved; however, only the Los Angeles Angels have come out the winners for cutting him loose. Haren is currently sitting on a 1-2 record with a 2.03 WHIP and 8.10 ERA in his only three appearances he’s made so far on the season.
Ryan Doumit Minnesota Twins C, OF
Ryan Doumit is one of those guys who are perfect for a fantasy team because he can be utilized in three different spots. Unfortunately for you, he’s not exactly cutting the mustard at any of them. His .200 batting is dropping fast; added onto the fact that he has yet to go yard or hit for more than five extra bases in 2013 is becoming a bit of an issue as well. He currently stands on six runs and six RBI, which is really more of an issue with the Minnesota Twins as they don’t have a worthy replacement for him.
Asdrubal Cabrera Cleveland Indians SS
Adrubal Cabrera is a hot-and-cold hitter, and so far all of 2013 has been ice cold for him. For a guy who is an intricate part of the Cleveland Indians offense he certainly doesn’t seem to know his responsibilities. Cabrera has only nine hits on the season, four of which have been for extra bases: two doubles and two home runs. His .150 batting average is a blight in the lineup for both the Indians and you. Get rid of him fast!
Rickie Weeks Milwaukee Brewers 2B
Like Cabrera above, the 2013 season has been ice cold for one of the more dominant power-hitting second baseman of the last five years. Weeks has only crushed one home run thus far, along with knocking in only three runners. The Milwaukee Brewers have been on an incredible seven game win streak and have gotten little-to-no contribution from Weeks. Now might be the best time to cut him, and his .182 average loose from your squad.
Mitchell Boggs St. Louis Cardinals RP
With Jason Motte possibly out for the season, Mitchell Boggs was supposed to be the guy who would help pick the team back up. Unfortunately for the St. Louis Cardinals and your fantasy team, this has not been the case. Boggs’s ERA has ballooned to 12.46 thanks in part to a shellacking the Philadelphia Phillies gave him on Sunday. Since taking over the closer role he has gotten only two saves, two blown saves and two losses in nine appearances. If you still have him on your team by the end of the week you might as well just forfeit your league entry fee.
