Fantasy Baseball: White Sox Outfield Situation

The Chicago White Sox are off to a surprisingly decent start with a record of 8-6. They have had great production from second basemen Alexei Ramirez who is having a superb start to the season. This article is not about the infield of the White Sox though. I will be focusing on the outfield situation that is taking place in Chicago as we speak.

The White Sox took a huge blow to their outfield last Thursday night after promising youngster Avisail Garcia suffered a torn labrum in his left shoulder. This injury will sideline him for the entire 2014 season giving guys like De Aza a chance for more playing time. Since Garcia is out we will start with the left fielder.

First up is the strange and hard to predict Alejandro De Aza. This guy got off to a sizzling start, hitting two home runs on Opening Day. Since then he has only hit one home run and has struggled mightily at the plate. He is currently batting .167 and is owned in roughly 70 percent of leagues. He has not looked good for about two weeks now and is stock is dropping fast. For now this guy is not a legitimate starting outfielder but he is a very streaky player and can go into a hot streak at any moment. Keep an eye on this guys progress but don’t go picking him up until you know for sure that he’s gonna produce.

The White Sox center fielder is Adam Eaton and he is absolutely dominating pitchers. He is currently batting .321 with 14 runs scored, nine RBIs, eight walks and one stolen base. His eight walks in the most impressive part of his current campaign and it puts his OBP at an impressive .418. Of all the outfielders on this Sox staff Eaton is the one that you want to have on your squad.

The final starting outfielder for the Sox is Dayan Viciedo. He is not what you would consider a power hitter to be but he can and is batting for average. His current mark is .333 with a .395 on-base percentage. He has only had 33 at-bats but recording 11 hits in those at-bats is a good sign. If you are looking for a solid backup who can get you average but not much more this is your guy. He is not going to win you your league but he can help.

Overall the White Sox have a decent outfield with a lot of streakiness to go with some solid batting averages. None of these guys are stand out fantasy options but if Adam Eaton keeps it up you could see his stock rise mightily.
