With Sean Rodriguez expected to be sidelined for a couple months due to injury, the Atlanta Braves brought in a pretty big reinforcement.
The team officially acquired former All-Star second baseman Brandon Phillips from the Cincinnati Reds in exchange for two minor leaguers on Sunday.
Phillips, 35, has been a tremendous performer throughout his 15-year MLB career. The three-time All-Star is coming off a 2016 campaign that saw him hit .291 with 11 homers and 64 RBI. This came on the heels of a 2015 season that saw him hit .294 with 12 homers and 70 runs driven in.
Needless to say, Phillips is a major upgrade for the Braves at second base. He's definitely going to remain a fantasy-relevant option and will likely find himself batting in the top-three of Atlanta's lineup this upcoming season.
Heading to Cincinnati in the deal are minor league pitchers Andrew McKirahan and Carlos Portuondo.
