The Atlanta Braves have filled the void left by Freddie Freeman's wrist injury, acquiring veteran first baseman Matt Adams from the St. Louis Cardinals in exchange for a minor leaguer.
Adams, 28, had taken on a part-time role for the Cardinals after acting as a primary starter for the team last season. The expectation here is that he will be the Braves' every-day first baseman until Freeman, who is out 8-10 weeks, returns.
Thus far this season, Adams is hitting .292 with a homer and seven RBI in 53 at-bats. That comes on the heels of him posting a .249 average with 16 homers and 54 RBI last season.
A left-handed hitter, Adams has posted a career .285 average with a .335 BABip against righties. In reality, he could be looking at more of a platoon here if the Braves get what they need from others at first until Freeman returns.
