The Miami Marlins made a pretty surprising move on Thursday, sending three prospects to the Cincinnati Reds in exchange for veteran starter Dan Straily.
It's a more no one really saw coming, especially with Straily under control for the next four seasons at what promises to be a relatively cheap salary.
Cincinnati had claimed the 28-year-old starter off waivers from the San Diego Padres last April, after which point he turned in his best season. Straily posted a 14-8 record with a 3.76 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 7.6 K's per nine innings in 31 starts for the Reds last season.
He figures to slot in as the Marlins' No. 4 starter and could have a pretty decent fantasy impact in larger leagues. The numbers he put up in Cincinnati were fantasy relevant. Now, set to go to a National League East where pitching has seemingly dominated, that could be taken to an entirely new level in 2017.
Marlins Park was considered the fourth-best pitcher-friendly stadium in all of baseball this past season, behind only Minute Maid Park, Dodger Stadium and the Oakland Coliseum. Meanwhile, Great American Park in Cincinnati ranked in the middle of the pack.
