Fantasy Impact of Jaime Garcia Trade to the Atlanta Braves

The Atlanta Braves have picked up their third starting pitcher of the young MLB offseason, acquiring 30-year-old veteran Jaime Garcia from the St. Louis Cardinals for three prospects.

Garcia, a mainstay in the Cardinals' rotation over the past several years, pitched his first full season in 2016 since all the way back in 2011. Though, it was by far the worst performance of the lefty's career.

The Mexico native pitched to a 10-13 record with a 4.67 ERA and 1.38 WHIP in 32 games (30 starts). This came on the heels of Garcia posting a 10-6 record with a 2.43 ERA and 1.05 WHIP the previous season.

In reality, the expectation for Garcia should be somewhere in between what we've seen the past two seasons. That makes him a solid No. 2 or No. 3 starter on a good team.

This all comes on the heels of Atlanta adding both R.A. Dickey and Bartolo Colon to the mix in November.

From a fantasy standpoint, Garcia will continue to be an under-the-radar play in DFS contests when taking on left-handed heavy lineups. Hitters from that side of the plate have posted a .267 average with a .317 on-base percentage against Garcia in his career.

Equally as important, Garcia has had some solid success pitching against NL East teams. He boasts a career 2.66 ERA in seven starts against the New York Mets as well as a 2.82 ERA against the Philadelphia Phillies. Garcia's ERA against both the Miami Marlins and Washington Nationals also stands at under 3.25 for his career.
