The San Francisco Giants on Monday bolstered what had to be considered their demise this past season by adding closer Mark Melancon on a four-year, $62 million free-agent contract. 

Melancon, 31, put up an absurdly good 2016 season between the Pittsburgh Pirates and Washington Nationals. All said, he pitched to a 1.64 ERA and 0.90 WHIP while saving a combined 47 games en route to his second consecutive All-Star appearance. This came on the heels of the veteran leading the Majors with 51 saves back in 2015. 

We can't stress how important this addition is for the Giants' starting rotation and their fantasy impact moving forward into the 2017 season. Despite putting up a 2.74 ERA this past season, Madison Bumgarner received 10 no decisions. Of those 10, he yielded one earned run or less seven times. 

All said, the Giants' bullpen blew a whopping 32 games. We really have to hand it to the organization for actually taking care of this pressing need before moving on with the offseason. 

Not only is Bumgarner going to be impacted by this, both Johnny Cueto and Jeff Samardzija should see an uptick in fantasy production. Cueto pitched to a 2.79 ERA but also received nine no decisions. Of those nine, seven came in the form of blown saves from the Giants' pen. 

For his part, Meloncon has pitched to a 1.35 ERA in seven career games at San Francisco's AT&T Park. His ability to pitch roughly half his games at a pitcher-friendly ballpark can't be lost in all this.
