The Miami Marlins signed veteran starter Edinson Volquez to a two-year, $22 million contract on Monday evening. It was a much-needed signing for the team to fill a whole for an innings-eater in the rotation.
Volquez, 33, posted a 10-11 record with a 5.37 and 1.55 WHIP in 34 starts (188 innings) this past season. It was the veteran's highest ERA since the 2013 season.
There's not a lot to look at here from a fantasy perspective. Outside of splits that suggest he's in for a big game Volquez is not a fantasy-relevant option, even in DFS contests with a small slate of games. Though, it must be noted that he has pitched to a 2-0 record with a 1.64 ERA and a 1.09 WHIP in two career starts at Marlins Park.
