The Oakland Athletics' plan to go with a youthful rebuild began on Thursday with news that the team has designated two-time All-Star catcher Stephen Vogt for assignment.
Vogt, 32, was hitting at a .217 clip with four homers and 20 RBI on the season. He had also struck out in nearly a quarter of his at-bats while posting a poor .287 OBP.
This means Vogt will either be traded or waived within the next 10 days.
With Vogt no longer an option, Josh Phegley will likely handle the every-day catching duties for Oakland. Though, he's far from a fantasy-relevant option. Phegley is hitting .214 with three homers and seven RBI on the season.
