In somewhat of a surprising move, the Chicago Cubs have named Jon Lester, not Jake Arrieta their Opening Day Starter this season.
There's not much of a question about the fantasy relevance of each of these pitchers.
Lester pitched to a 19-5 record with a 2.44 ERA and a 1.02 WHIP in 32 starts for the Cubs last season. Meanwhile, Arrieta had somewhat of a down season for Chicago, posting a 18-8 record with a 3.10/1.08 Split. This came following a 2015 campaign that aw him earn the NL Cy Young after going 22-6 with a 1.77/0.87 split.
Either way, both are going to be major factors in the fake baseball world.
Deciding to open with Lester instead of Arrieta could initially impact the latter's fantasy relevance early in the season, as he won't be going up against the opposition's No. 1 starter. That's the largest takeaway here.
