The defending AL champion Cleveland Indians have locked up one of their prized youngsters through his arbitration years, signing third baseman Jose Ramirez to a five-year, $26 million extension.
Ramirez, 20, had a breakout 2016 campaign for the team. He posted career-best numbers across the board, putting up a .312 average with 11 homers and 76 RBI. He also stole 22 bases, recorded 46 doubles and posted a tremendous .363 on-base percentage.
While Ramirez was always figured to be a long-term fixture in Cleveland, this gives him some stability moving forward. The two sides won't have to worry about arbitration hearings from here on out.
Ramirez remains one of the top all-around fantasy third baseman in the game. This extension only adds to that.
