Seattle Mariners GM Jerry DiPoto noted on Friday that star shortstop Jean Segura could miss two months after the former All-Star suffered an ankle injury on Thursday. This is more bad news for a Mariners squad that remains without 80 percent of its opening day starting rotation.
From a fantasy perspective, Segura's potential absense through July is huge. He entered this weekend's action leading the AL with a .341 average while putting up four homers, 20 RBI and 29 runs scored. This had him as a top-five fantasy shortstop on the season.
Obviously, there's no telling just how long Segura will be out. High-ankle sprains are tricky to rehab. It will be all about how Segura responds to time off.
