The San Diego Padres have traded outfielder Matt Kemp to the Atlanta Braves in exchange for the struggling Héctor Olivera, who was immediately designated for assignment by San Diego.
More than anything, this deal gives Atlanta a bat in the middle of the lineup that's able to go deep on a consistent basis. It also enables Kemp to go from the pitcher-friendly confides of Petco Park to a more hitter-friendly park in Atlanta.
Kemp, 31, is hitting .255 with 23 homers and 69 RBI thus far this season. Though, his .285 on-base percentage would represent a career low should he finish the season at that clip.
From a fantasy perspective, the expectation here has to be that Kemp will become a more valuable DFS play.
Thus far this season, Kemp is hitting .277 with 15 homers and 42 RBI on the road. For comparison's sake, he's hitting just .243 with eight homers and 27 RBI at Petco. This tells us a story of a player that's going to perform at a much higher clip away from San Diego.
