After being cut loose by the Detroit Tigers prior to the start of the regular season, it didn't take veteran starter Mike Pelfrey long to find a new job.
The 33-year-old veteran inked a minor league deal with the Chicago White Sox on Wednesday evening and could provide some depth to what has to be considered a top-heavy rotation.
Pelfrey was downright horrible for Detroit during the spring, which forced the team to move on from him completely while eating the remainder of his salary. That came on the heels of a 2016 campaign that saw him post a 5.07 ERA and 1.73 WHIP in 22 starts.
While Pelfrey remains relevant from a fantasy perspective, should he crack the Majors with Chicago this season, it could have some impact when it comes to deeper leagues. Dylan Covey earned the fifth spot in the team's rotation heading into the season. He has no Major League experience and isn't necessarily a lock to remain a mainstay in the rotation moving forward.
Of course, that spot in the rotation is just waiting for top prospect Lucas Giolito to take it over. Whether the signing of Pelfrey acts as a hindrance to his ascension to the bigs is the biggest question here. We highly doubt it.
