After the New York Yankees placed an outfielder on the disabled list for the second consecutive day, the team will call upon top prospect Miguel Andujar to join the team in Toronto for Sunday's a game against the Blue Jays. In a corresponding move to create room, New York placed outfielder Billy McKinney on the 10-day disabled list after a collision with the wall in Saturday's game.
Andujar, rated as the 65th-best prospect in baseball by MLB.com, was posed to start the season with the Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders at third base. Instead, Andujar returns to the club he spent much of the spring with and received a brief stint in the majors with last season.
The 23-year-old possesses plenty of tools that fantasy owners should be excited about. FanGraphs scouted his raw power at a 60-grade on the 20-80 scale and the young third baseman carries a solid hit tool to pair with the raw power. Last season in 125 games between Double-A and Triple-A, Andujar posted a .315/.352/.498 slash line with an .850 OPS, 132 wRC+, 16 home runs and five stolen bases.
He is a great pickup in dynasty leagues, if he isn't already owned, but Andujar might be someone to not overhype for the time being. New York is loaded with infielders and Andujar will likely find it difficult to see a reliable number of plate appearances and an opportunity to get comfortable at the MLB level.
New York should see Jacoby Ellsbury return to the team within the next week and that move alone could push Andujar back down to the minors so he can see a healthy dose of plate appearances to start the season.
