To put it kindly Alex Rodriguez has had a iffy time in New York. He was supposed to be the savior of the Yankees and all he could muster was one World Series championship. Rodriguez is set to make $114 million over the next five seasons and the chances of him playing in the pinstripes is seemingly dropping by the day.
The most recent news that has stirred up in the New York was a tweet that A-Rod sent out. He stated that he was “cleared” to play by his doctor Bryan Kelly and that was not what Brian Cashman wanted him to say apparently. Cashman’s response to the tweet was as follows, “Alex should just shut the f**k up.” This is where things get fishy because we have heard news that his hip is not healthy, so I don’t know what to believe.
Shortly after the Twitter escapade; Cashman and Levine made a conference call to A-Rod, but the terms of the conversation were not made public. Once this conversation was over Rodriguez once again opened his mouth and he believes that the Yankees are delaying his return to the Majors so they can collect $28 million of his salary in insurance. This all comes after the horrible playoffs that he had in which he only recorded three hits.
This brings up the question of whether we will even see him play for the Yankees ever again? Even if he comes back healthy there is a lot of other scenarios that could hinder his chances of playing the hot corner. Mainly the whole Biogenesis clinic scare that has 20 major leaguers wondering if they will be serving 100 game-suspensions. If this is the case you could basically guarantee that he will not be playing at all in 2013.
The Yankees are playing things out exactly how you would expect them to as they stated that they want him to play and that they want him back as soon as possible. I do not know who to believe in all of this. Baseball is a business so you would assume that the Yankees are trying to get as much money out of this mess as they can. For now he remains a Yankee and there is no further word. Look for the Biogenesis suspensions to be dropped right around the All Star break with Rodriguez at the center point of the hooplah.
