The Houston Astros surprising 2015 season continued Friday night when starting pitcher Mike Fiers threw a ridiculous 132-pitch no-hitter against the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Acquired from the Milwaukee Brewers back in July, Fiers had been pretty solid with Houston prior to the domination he displayed at home against the Dodgers. In three appearances (two starts) Fiers posted a 3.71 ERA and 1.35 WHIP since the trade from Milwaukee.
Everything changed on a dime with his performance Friday night. Fiers, pitching through some control issues, walked three batters and struck out 10 in MLB's fifth no-hitter of the season. He got both Yasmani Grandall and Joc Pederson twice on the evening.
In what was the Astros first no-hitter in 13 years, Fiers was probably the unlikeliest candidate on the team to accomplish the feat. Though, there is a reason why Houston traded for the veteran starter.
With two out in the ninth, Fiers got third baseman Justin Turner swinging to end the game.
