The Chicago Cubs will be without shortstop Addison Russell for the second consecutive game when they take on the St. Louis Cardinals Friday evening.
Russell was a late scratch for Wednesday's game with shoulder soreness. With Chicago having had an off day on Thursday, this is the first official update on the shortstop's status.
The time off might get Russell straight again. He's struggled during the early going this season, posting a .227 average with just two homers and 15 RBI. With Russell out Friday, Javier Baez will play short and Kris Bryant will move to the outfield.
