San Francisco Giants catcher Buster Posey will be out of action for at least the next week after the team placed him on the seven-day concussion disabled list on Tuesday.
Posey suffered the injury when he took a Taijuan Walker 94 MPH fast ball to the hit early in Monday's game against the Arizona Diamondbacks. He was immediately shown on the infield turf before being helped off the field (and out of the game) by trainers.
This shouldn't come as too much of a surprise considering how dazed Posey looked when he was hit. Though, it also doesn't seem to be a long-term injury considering San Francisco played him on the seven-day, not 10-day DL.
With Posey out of the lineup, Nick Hundley will take over the primary catcher duties for San Francisco. The team also recalled Tim Federowicz from Triple-A Sacramento.
While the primary focus here will be on Posey from an individual fantasy standpoint, keep in mind he's one of the best pitchers in baseball when it comes to calling a game. Jeff Samardzija, Matt Cain and Madison Bumgarner will take the Giants' next three turns in the rotation.
