As if dealing with injuries to 80 percent of their starting rotation wasn't enough, the Seattle Mariners were forced to place star second baseman Robinson Cano on the 10-day disabled list Monday night due to a strained right quad.
Cano had missed five consecutive games prior to being placed on the DL prior to Tuesday's outing with the division-rival Oakland Athletics. In this, it's rather suprising that the Mariners took so long to DL their most-accomplished hitter.
Through the five five-plus weeks of the season, Cano is hitting a solid .296 with eight homers and 28 RBI. He remains one of the most-viable fantasy options at the weak-hitting second base position.
With Cano sidelined until at least next week, Taylor Motter will continue to get starts at second for Seattle. He entered Tuesday's action hitting just .232 with five homers and 15 RBI in 99 at-bats on the season.
