The Washington Nationals are making sure to play it safe with young shortstop Trea Turner, who excited Saturday's game with a strained right hamstring. 

While manager Buster Baker underplayed the severity of the injury after Turner sat out Sunday's game, the team has now placed the middle infielder on the 10-day disabled list, retroactive April 9th. 

This makes a nice amount of sense. Hamstring injuries can linger throughout the season, so why not shut Turner down for a week-plus to make sure he is 100 percent and ready to go. 

Last season saw Turner post an absurd .342 average with 13 homers and 40 RBI in just 73 games. Needless to say, Washington needs him to be ready to go for the remainder of the season. 

With Turner out of action for the next week-plus, veteran Stephen Drew will take over at short. The team also re-called Michael Taylor from Triple-A to take Turner's spot on the 25-man roster.
