The Washington Nationals will be without star shortstop Trea Turner for the foreseeable future after the youngster suffered a broken wrist Thursday against the Chicago Cubs.
Turner was hit by a pitch on the hand and immediately exited the game. There's currently no timetable for his return to the diamond.
This is a major blow for a Nationals squad that has relied on Turner to be a table setter thus far this season. The 23-year-old is hitting .277 with seven homers, 53 runs scored and 35 stolen bases on the season.
This injury also changes the Nationals' dynamic leading up to next month's trade deadline. The expectation is that Turner will be out for the long term. If so, the team will need to add a short-term replacement at short moving forward.
