The Texas Rangers will be without 37-year-old veteran third baseman Adrian Beltre for at least the first 10 days of the regular season. The team announced on Saturday that it has placed Beltre on the disabled list with a calf injury.
Beltre is considered one of the top fantasy third baseman in the game after posting a .300 average with 32 homers and 104 RBI last season.
The time surely has come for a contingency plan here.
With Beltre sidelined, youngster Joey Gallo will open the season as Texas' starting third baseman. The 23-year-old hit just .208 with four homers and nine RBI during the spring. He's also posted a horrendous .173 average with a 57 percent strikeout rate in parts ot two MLB season.
Unless you are intent on streaming Rangers players here, definitely avoid Gallo until he prove he can hit MLB pitching.
